I have an original 'Yashica 35' rangefinder, and the lens shown on the black-nose J looks identical. Both were made in Japan but only the black-version features a serial number for the lens.ĭoes anyone here know which is the earlier version? The serial numbers bear no relationship to each other silver-nose starts with N 903xxx (note there is a gap between N and the first digit) and the black-nose is J310xxxx. The lugs for strap hooks are again different with much more substantial, rounded ones on the black-nosed camera. The information on the lens' bezels is also very different and the Yashica logos show variations too. The version with the black nose has a scalloped focusing ring with a large protrusion to make focusing quicker and easier (you can see it near the base of the lens mount in the photo) and the other camera has a smooth focusing ring with no focusing aid. Perhaps someone here is familiar with both versions but I freely admit, it took me by surprise. Ever keen to share insights into Yashica I grabbed it and took a piccie of both types earlier today. I was about to load some film into the J - the one with the silver nose - when I looked up to the PC screen and saw another for sale but with a very different-looking lens.
