If you still don’t get sound on your headphones, you will need to contact Apple because you have a hardware problem. Its unfortunate because the open back design works great for talking, its just that my old 980Ti has a hard time keeping quiet these days. Try turning off your Bluetooth, your Mac may try connecting to a Bluetooth device that isn’t in range. I have a Sennheiser GSP500 headset which has a pretty good mic built into it. This is right now the way for me to go, however I believe that there has to be a way to get this option activated for the regular mic jack as well. If I the headset with a USB sound card instead, the option is active for that device. The headset is attached to the regular mic jack.
